BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMAL ISLAND CITY COLLEGE

The Samal Island City College is a locally-funded public institution of higher learning located at Brgy. Peñaplata, Samal district, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao Del Norte. It was created by virtue of City Ordinance 2018-296, “An Ordinance Establishing a Local College institution in the Island Garden City of samal, province of Davao del Norte to be known as Samal Island City College” as an integral part of the collective soial development thrust of the local government unit under the administration of our City Mayor, Hon. Al David T. Uy.


On August 5, 2019, the college opened its doors with four academic programs offered, namely: Bachelor of Public Administration, Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management. During its first year of operation, it housed its first batch of 309 students in the old city hall at Datu Tagiog Street, Brgy. Peñaplata, Samal District until the City Hall of the City Government of Samal Island was transferred into its present site which it’s in Sitio Maag, Brgy. Peñaplata, just three kilometers away from its previous location during the second semester of the same school year.


During the 148th Regular Session of the 7th City Council of the Island Garden City of Samal, Resolution no. 1518 Series of 2019 was approved. This resolution authorizes Hon. Mayor Al David T. Uy to enter into and sign for and in behalf of the City Government of the Island Garden City of Samal the Deep of donation to Samal Island City College a total land area of fifteen thousand nine hundred fifteen (15,915) square meters, more or less to be used as school site.


On December 13, 2019, the College had its inauguration and at the same time, the presidential Investiture of its first College President/ Administrator, Dr. Lyndon F. Devero, LPT at Camp Holiday Resort in Babak District, Island Garden City of Samal. The pioneering batch of school administrator was also introduced during the school’s inauguration, namely: Dr. Analyn C. Dominguez as the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mr. Leomar Jay R. Oblianda as the Vice President for Administrator and Mr. Oscar C. Baslao as the Vice President for Finance. The Board of trustees of the College were composed of the following: Hon. Mayor Al David T. Uy as the chairman, Dr. Lyndon F. Devero as the Vice Chairman, Ms. Melanie R. Sabanal as Board Secretary and Hon. Rolando Z. Gañac (Faculty Representative), Dr. Ronila H. Jabonero (Business Sector Representative), Moana Dubay C. Jickain (Students Government Representative) as Board Members.


At present, Samal Island City College is hoping to open six additional academic programs for the next two school years. With its vision of becoming a premier and sustainable City College transforming lives and communities through quality education, Samal Island City College commits itself to provide access to affordable and quality higher education forming students to become proactive partners in the sustainable development of the community. This institution is the concretization and realization of a long dream of the Local Government Officials and the City Mayor, Hon. Al David T. Uy to provide quality yet affordable tertiary education to the low-income sections of society.



SAMAL ISLAND CITY COLLEGE PRESIDENTIAL INVESTITURE AND SCHOOL INNAGURATION

9th of December, the Samal Island City College (SICC), the newly established city college situated at Datu Taganiog St., Brgy Peñaplata, Samal District, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte, will celebrate its founding anniversary.


Last December 9, 2019, His Honorable Al David T. Uy, the City Mayor of the Island Garden of Samal and Chair of the Board of Trustees of SICC confer the seat as the first president of the college to Dr. Lyndon F. Devero, LPT. This academic ceremony the inauguration and investiture of a president is a vital event in the life of an institution. This paves the way in creating a vision for the future of SICC.


The ceremony started with a grand parade of invited guests, administrators and key personnel of different schools within and outside Davao City. Dr. Ida Yap-Patron the former Chancellor of Philippine Women’s College of Davao, Dr. Jocelyn H. Hua, the College President of Kolehiyo ng Pantukan, and Dr. Ruby Serrano, the Head of the Curriculum and Instruction Department of the University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao City were there to give their congratulatory and salutary remarks to the newly invested President of SICC. Dr. Patron, Dr. Hua, and Dr. Serrano have been Dr. Devero’s mentor not only in his professional life but also in real life as well.


The ceremony was attended also by members of the Executive Department of IGACOS local government unit, the officers of the 8th city council of Samal, and other administrators and key persons of schools within and outside Davao City.


Dr. Analyn C. Dominguez, the Vice President for academic affairs gave the statement of purpose for this investiture ceremony. The Presidential Mace was presented by Ms. Maritoni C. Tejano, LPT, the college registrar, and the plaque of installation and presidential medallion was presented by the Honorable City Mayor Uy. Mr. Leomar Jay R. Oblianda, MBA, the Vice President for Administration gave the concluding remarks.


The SICC community has not been that proud and happy of having Dr. Lyndon F. Devero, LPT as the first president of the college. With his leadership and visionary character SICC will grow and sustain its vision in transforming lives and communities of Samal Island through quality education.
