MOU Signing Between IGACOS and WWF - Philippines..

The local government of Island Garden City of Samal agreed to work together with Kabang Kalikasan Ng Pilipinas Foundation Inc. (KKPFI) also known as the World Wide Fund for Nature – Philippines (WWF-Philippines) as partner to reduce plastic pollution in the city by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “No Plastics in Nature”. The MOU signing took place at Samal Multi-purpose Gymnasium, Samal District on December 2, 2019.

The MoU signed by the City Mayor Al David T. Uy and Jose Angelito M. Palma Chairman of KKPFI. The MoU is a form of mutual commitment in complementing each other’s roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the “Plastic Smart Cities Project that will run until 2021.

KKPFI is a national organization of the World Wide Fund for Nature is a non-stock, non-profit organization engaged in the conservation and preservation of the environment in selected areas of the Philippines, including Davao Gulf where it is currently working with partners to establish a network of marine protected areas.

Thus, both parties share the common objective of conserving the Davao Gulf and reducing plastic pollution to stop the leakage into riverways and ocean.

“Our city is the first city signed a commitment to “No Plastic in Nature”. Next year we will start to “no single-use plastic”, I know we will exert effort to implement this program. Kinahanglan gyud ni og political will. Magtinabangay ta, dili lang man ni para lang sa atoa kundi para ni sa next generation. We need the support of the constituents.” City Mayor Al David T. Uy said.
